The MAX17410 is a 2-/1-phase interleaved Quick-PWMâ„¢ step-down VID power-supply controller fornotebook IMVP6+ CPUs. True out-of-phase operationreduces input ripple current requirements and outputvoltage ripple while easing component selection andlayout difficulties. The Quick-PWM control scheme pro-vides instantaneous response to fast load currentsteps. Active voltage positioning reduces power dissi-pation and bulk output capacitance requirements andallows ideal positioning compensation for tantalum,polymer, or ceramic bulk output capacitors.The MAX17410 is intended for two different CPU coreapplications: either bucking down the battery directly tocreate the core voltage, or bucking down the +5V sys-tem supply. The single-stage conversion method allowsthis device to directly step down high-voltage batteriesfor the highest possible efficiency. Alternatively, 2-stageconversion (stepping down the +5V system supplyinstead of the battery) at higher switching frequencyprovides the minimum possible physical size.A slew-rate controller allows controlled transitionsbetween VID codes. A thermistor-based temperaturesensor provides programmable thermal protection. Apower monitor provides a buffered analog voltage out-put proportional to the power delivered to the load.
